Mount Cook

Visit New Zealand's Aoraki Mt Cook, our highest peak. It stands at 3724 metres above sea level – although it was recorded at 3764 metres high until a series of slips affected the peak. The Mount Cook Village is a 45 minute drive from the main State Highway through the Mackenzie Country alongside the gorgeous aqua blue Lake Pukaki. There are a number of accommodation options in the Village including the iconic Hermitage Hotel and a…... Read more

Lupins, Mackenzie Country

Imagine a meadow so colourful you can’t help but pull the car over to the side of the road and snap a photo of this stunning South Island summer scene. The lupins of the MacKenzie Basin are essentially a weed and considered a pest by some, while others will plant them on their farms and treat them as a well-loved member of the country side. The story goes that the lupin, originally from North America first…... Read more

Located in the southwest of the South Island and known for its towering Mitre Peak, rainforests, waterfalls and home to New Zealand Fur Seal colonies, penguins and dolphins. The overnight cruise departs from…... Read more

Otago Central Rail Trail

In Autumn, I finally had my first taste of the Otago Central Rail Trail. The Rail Trail is a 150km (93 mile) cycle trail along a disused railway corridor built for steam trains. It starts in the Central Otago town of Clyde and ends in Middlemarch and can be enjoyed over multiple days, or as a day trip taking in a smaller portion of the trail. I was lucky to experience a day’s cycle taking in…... Read more

How to visit Milford Sound?

Milford Sound, often described as the eighth wonder of the world, it is set in the Fiordland National Park on the west coast of the South Island and provides the most dramatic scenery in New Zealand. I am always asked by guests - How to visit Milford Sound? What's the best way to visit this remote paradise? To be honest it depends on you, how much time do you have and how much money you…... About Me

My name is Nic (short for Nicola) and I have lived in New Zealand most of my life, however it wasn’t until I started to travel overseas that I learnt to respect and love my country. My parents were both born in England and came to New Zealand to live shortly before I was born. I am eternally grateful to them for having the courage to emigrate here, a move which must have been very difficult…... Read more
