Day By Day

1

Arrive into Nelson

Kia Ora and welcome to Nelson, home of the Abel Tasman National Park.

The Christ Church Cathedral looks over the city streets where you will find boutique shops, art galleries and alfresco dining. Along Wakefield Quay, Nelson’s picturesque waterfront, you will find several restaurants with views across the harbour to the mountains.

Surrounded by picturesque cottage gardens with handcrafted buildings overlooking a grassy village green, this is a resort with heart! Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco is built from handmade bricks and timber salvaged from the Nelson Wharf which was built in 1842.   Within the Monaco Resort you’ll find a boutique jewelry shop, an award winning hair salon, a luxurious health and beauty salon, along with a solar heated swimming pool and gymnasium.

Nelson - Abel Tasman Guided Walk, Day One

Today’s Approximate Times:
Scenic drive to Kaiteriteri – from Nelson 1 hour.
Cruise Kaiteriteri to Totaranui – 1.5 hours.
Walk – 2.5 hours (7 kms, 4.5 miles) including tidal crossing Maximum elevation 60 m (200 ft)

This morning, transfer to Motueka to meet your guides for your welcome briefing. Continue to Kaiteriteri, an entry point to the Abel Tasman National Park and board your Vista Cruise.

Enjoy the spectacular Abel Tasman coastline as you cruise from the southern tip of the park, Kaiteriteri to Totaranui in the north. From Totaranui, you will walk through beech and rata forests and along secluded golden beaches to the breath-taking expanse of the Awaroa inlet.  At Awaroa, a kiwi welcome awaits you at Meadowbank Homestead, a faithful re-creation of the Wilson family’s original home.

All meals, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner are included.

Abel Tasman Guided Walk, Day Two

Today’s approximate walking times:
Maximum total Walking time: 7 hours (17 kms, 10.5 miles)
Awaroa – Tonga Quarry Beach:  6 km (3.5 miles) Max elevation 85 m (280 ft)
Tonga Quarry Beach to Bark Bay:  4km (2.5 miles) Max elevation 120 m (400 ft)
Bark Bay to Torrent Bay:  7 kms (4.4 miles) Max elevation 105 m (340 ft)

Following breakfast, set off for your scenic walk to Torrent Bay. Note, if you not feeling energic, your guide will arrange a boat ride so you can choose the amount of walking to suit.

Today’s walk, takes you through native forest, along the magnificent coast and to the golden sands of Onetahuti Beach.   Explore the historic sites and golden cove of Tonga Quarry beach before walking over a forested saddle, around the Waterfall Trail to Bark Bay.   Here you stop for lunch and have the chance to relax, explore, swim or sunbathe on the golden sand.

After lunch, walk the most varied section the coastal track as it takes you through shady gullies of mature Beech forest, fern grottos and sunny groves of Manuka framing coastal vistas. Cross the swing bridge at Falls River and continue on to Torrent Bay.

Your welcome awaits at Torrent Bay Lodge, located on the beachfront.  Originally the holiday home of the Wilson family, now extended and renovated to include all the modern comforts whilst keeping its relaxed, beach holiday feel.

All meals, breakfast, morning & afternoon tea, lunch and dinner are included.

Abel Tasman Guided Walk, Day Three - Nelson

Today’s approximate walking times:
Walk 4-5 hours, depending on tides (13 – 16 kms, 8 – 10 miles) Maximum elevation 110 m (360 ft)
Scenic drive Marahau/Kaiteriteri to Nelson (1 hour)

Enjoy coffee on the deck or take a stroll along the golden sands of Torrent Bay before Breakfast this morning.

Your final day includes a nice easy section of the track to Marahau. Enjoy the panoramic views across Tasman Bay and Nelson and rediscover the pristine bays and beaches named by French Explorer, Dumont D’Urville in 1827.

From Marahau, meet your driver and transfer to your Nelson Accommodation.

Explore Nelson on your Nelson Wine Tour, where the vineyards are set amongst scenic countryside often with a foreground of rich horticultural land, tidal estuaries and background of the Mount Richmond Forest Park or Kahurangi National Park.  Your guide has chosen each vineyard for its stunning location, unique story and above all each vineyard is family owned and driven by passion to consistently provide high quality wines. Each visit is different and may include wine appreciation, meeting the winemaker, walking through the vines and sampling wines from the tank or barrel. Food & wine matching is always a highlight along with tasting other local gourmet foods.

All pricing is in New Zealand Dollars and includes 15% GST (Goods & Services Tax).

Pricing

Pricing is subject to availability and confirmation of the stated itinerary at time of booking.  If we are unable to confirm the stated hotels and services, we will endeavour to confirm substitutes at similar rates, however additional costs may apply.

Rental Car Terms & Conditions:

Inclusions: unlimited kilometres, airport/ferry collection fee, full insurance (subject to reduced excess), front windscreen cover, personal accident insurance, guaranteed replacement vehicle in case of accident.

Exclusions: insurance excess reduction of $345.00 including GST (note, standard insurance excess is $3,450.00 including GST), bond, petrol costs, one way fee ($57.50), optional extras, (all additional expenses to be paid direct)

Payment Policy

We do require a non-refundable deposit of NZD$250.00 per person before we go ahead with securing any reservations.

In addition, some of our suppliers may require further deposits to cover their strict cancellation policies, in this case we would advise you at the time of quoting and confirming your itinerary.

The balance of your booking would be required 45 days prior to your travel date.   If you book inside 45 days, full payment would be required at time of booking.

Payment can be made by electronic wire transfer and should include the additional NZD $25.00 bank fee.   We also accept Visa and Mastercard at an additional fee of 3.1%.

Amendments

We are happy to amend your itinerary and dates, however please keep in mind that some of the original services may not be available for your new dates, which may incur additional costs for substituted services.   Amendment fees may apply with multiple changes.

Cancellation Fees

Once Confirmed               Non-refundable Deposit of NZD $250.00 per person

Inside 45 – 21 Days          A Cancellation fee of 30% of your total booking value will apply, along with any cancellation fees applied by our accommodation, sightseeing and other providers.

Inside 20 – 8 days             A Cancellation fee of 50% of your total booking value will apply, along with any cancellation fees applied by our accommodation, sightseeing and other providers.

Inside 7 Days                      Full Cancellations, 100% charge

We will however do our very best to recover and minimise these cancellation fees but recommend that you purchase Travel Insurance to cover yourself.
